Lee Miles and Swedish political culture

This is a quote from Lee Miles contribution to the volume Political Outsiders in Swedish History, 1848-1932. (Edgren, Lars and Olofsson, Magnus ed.. Cambridge: Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2009).

“It is essential then that historians and political scientists continue to have an open interdisciplinary dialogue on concepts of political outsiders if their role in Swedish history, politics and society is to be fully understood” (p. 157).

One idea that Lee Miles presents is that the very fact of identifying an outsider also means that you have, in one way or another, identified the dominant political culture.

Another is that Swedish social democracy has influenced Swedish historiography, and a result of that influence has been the marginalization of the history of Swedish outsiders, when it has fit the social democratic agenda.
